Jackson Group worked with Plexus Scientific Corp. as a subcontractor to inventory bat species within the Fort Campbell military reservation. Surveys were done all across the 102,000 acre military installation. The goal of the survey was to determine presence/probable absence of federally listed threatened and endangered bat species, specifically northern long-eared bats (Myotis septentrionalis) and Indiana bats (M. sodalis).
All surveys followed the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) most recent guidelines, the 2015 Range-Wide Indiana Bat Summer Survey Guidelines, April 2015 and were conducted by federally permitted biologists by the USFWS to preform surveys on Indiana bats and northern long-eared bats.
There are sixteen (16) species that can be found in Tennessee; six (6) species of which were represented in surveys done on Fort Campbell: big brown bat (Eptesicus fuscus), eastern red bat (Lasiurus borealis), gray bat (M. grisescens), little brown bat (M. lucifugus), tri-colored bat (Perimyotis subflavus), and evening bat (Nycticeius humeralis). All bats were released after morphometric data was collected.
